Brother Resistance, born Roy Lewis in 1954 in Trinidad and Tobago, was a pioneering musician, poet, and cultural activist known for his influential role in the development of Rapso music, a genre that blends calypso, reggae, and spoken word poetry. As a founding member and leader of the Network Riddum Band, Brother Resistance brought Rapso to the forefront of Caribbean music with his powerful lyrics that championed social justice, black consciousness, and the struggles of the oppressed. His signature songs like "Ring De Bell" and "Tonight the Tonight" became anthems of resistance and cultural pride, resonating deeply with audiences in the Caribbean and beyond. A passionate advocate for Trinidad and Tobago’s cultural heritage, he also served as president of the Trinbago Unified Calypsonians' Organization (TUCO), working tirelessly to support and uplift the nation's artists. Brother Resistance remained a key figure in the cultural landscape until his passing in 2021, leaving behind a legacy of musical innovation and activism.
