Calypso Rose, born McCartha Linda Sandy-Lewis in 1940 in Tobago, is a trailblazing calypsonian and cultural icon known as the "Queen of Calypso." With a career spanning over six decades, she broke numerous barriers in the male-dominated world of calypso, becoming the first woman to win the Trinidad Road March title in 1977 and the first female Calypso Monarch in 1978. Her music, characterized by its infectious rhythms and insightful lyrics, often addresses themes of women's empowerment, social justice, and Caribbean identity.
